I wish Jesus Ortiz would hurry up and offer Drayton McLane and Tim Purpura his recommendation regarding Roy Oswalt. The Astros clearly need some convincing in order to offer him a long-term deal.

As inept as the Houston Astros' front office has appeared in recent weeks, the Chronicle's sports department has somehow managed to steal the show, as its own unprofessionalism and inaccuracy have overshadowed T-Poo's apparent paralysis. As bad as the Astros have been, a tremendous amount of terrible reporting and agenda-driven writing was required, but Ortiz & Justice were clearly up to the task.
