Astros Minor League Update - games of August 4, 2005

AAA: Round Rock 9, Frisco 7
- Todd Self had a perfect night at the plate including a 2-run home run, Luke Scott added two more hits and 1B Carlos Rivera added 3 hits and scored three times in an Express win. Brandon Duckworth was handed the win, despite allowing 11 hits and 6 runs (5 earned), including three home runs in the second inning, in 5+ innings.

AA: Corpus Christi 9, San Antonio 2
- The stars were aplenty for the Hooks in a rout of San Antonio. Phillip Barzilla led the way with seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out six. Offensively, Josh Anderson had three hits, including his first home run, 3B Mark Saccomanno had two hits including a two-run homer and 1B JR Phillips had three hits. Greg Rajan of the Corpus Christi Caller reports that Anderson's home run was his first in 375 days. UPDATE: I almost forgot to mention that Charlton Jimerson went four more at-bats without a strikeout (one hit).

High A: Salem 6, Myrtle Beach 3
- Hunter Pence and Ervin Alcantara paced the Avalanche with two hits apiece, and Josh Muecke pitched six strong innings to lead Salem to a win over the Pelicans. Alcantara has posted two-hit games in five straight and eight out of eleven. Muecke was the Astros' 5th round pick out of Loyola Marymount University in 2003. He's a 23 year-old LHP whose ERAs ahve dropped in each of his three professional stops at Tri-City, Lexington and now Salem. Manager Ivan DeJesus is blessed with Muecke and Chance Douglass, who are battling for the Carolina League ERA crown, and now Troy Patton, in his starting rotation.

Low A: Kannapolis 6, Lexington 0
- Kannapolis returned the favor, shutting out the Legends at Applebee's Field. Nothing worthy of a mention from this game.

Short Season A: Hudson Valley 12, Tri-City 9
- Tri-City could not overcome 4 Hudson Valley errors, despite another multi-hit game for Tommy Manzella and a four-hit night from 1B Mark Ori. Ori is now hitting .328 with an OBP of .398, but he has only three extra base hits in 128 at-bats. Ori was the Astros' 14th round pick in 2005 out of Northwestern University, where he started every game and led the Big Ten in walks.

Rookie: Bluefield 6, Greenville 5
