Astros Minor League Update - games of July 31, 2005

AAA: Salt Lake 9, Round Rock 6
- Todd Self's 3-run HR was not enough as Salt Lake beat Fernando Nieve. Self has been excellent for Round Rock and looked like a professional in his cup of coffee with the big club. Nieve gave up 9 hits and 8 runs (7 earned) in 6 innings for the Express.

AA: Corpus Christi 4, Frisco 2
- Peter Bauer made his second consecutive strong start for the Hooks. Like Jason Hirsh, who starts tonight for CC, Bauer is a big boy (6'7", 235). Bauer retired the final 11 guys that he faced. Josh Anderson had 2 hits and stole 2 bases. Before you get too excited about Bauer, remember that he is 26 years old and was released from the Marlins' AAA club after posting a 6.91 ERA earlier this season.

High A: Salem4, Frederick 2
- Catcher Kevin Davidson went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Hunter Pence had 2 hits to pace the Avalanche. Mitch Talbot pitched 7 strong innings striking out 5 and walking 1.

Low A: Asheville 10, Lexington 9
- Asheville slugged 5 home runs in a drubbing of Legends' pitching. Drew Sutton hit 3 hits and drove in 5 runs to lead Lexington. Sutton was a 15th round draft pick in 2004.

Short Season A: Tri-City and Oneonta were rained out.

Rookie: Princeton 9, Greenville 7
- Koby Clemens hit his second HR and Eli Iorg had 3 hits in a loss to Princeton. Princeton's starting pitcher could not escape the first inning, but Polin Trinidad and 2 relievers could not hold the lead for the Astros.
