Next move: Guard Play
The Rockets currently have under contract at guard:
David Wesley - FA after 2005-2006
Moochie Norris - FA after 2006-2007
Bob Sura - FA after 2007-2008
Mike James - FA after 2006-2007
Charlie Ward - FA after 2006-2007
Luther Head - rookie
If I'm CD, here's what I do:
(1) Use the one-time luxury tax amnesty program to cut Moochie Norris. You still owe him under the cap for two years, but he's a sunk cost at this point. Nobody's going to trade for him since he's signed for beyond this season.
(2) Trade David Wesley. He's got an expiring contract after the upcoming season, which should get something worthwhile in return.
(3) Sign Earl Watson. He's an ego-free, team-oriented PG who is excellent in man-to-man defense. Would be a wonderful compliment to Sura/Head/Barry at a reduced price. You don't need a scoring PG with T-Mac and Yao in the fold.
(4) Consider bringing in Dale Davis or Bo Outlaw as a banger off the bench. The first one to agree to a one-year, $1 million contract, sign him immediately.

Test
Earl Watson is an interesting call, but my educated guess is that Mighty Mouse will have first crack at the gig. It'll all come down to whether he's willing to play for the minimum. Unless, of course, the price of the chronic in Texas is significantly lower than what it sells for in Oregon.
I am a Rocket fan stuck in San Antonio... I hope they can work a sign and trade for Mighty Mouse. I think he has been stuck up there in Portland in a bad situation for too long and needs to be in a positive situation. I think his experience and scoring ability (when needed) could really help the Rockets. His ability to breakdown the defense would open up shots for Swift and Yao on the baseline. I say ship Wesley and some other expiring contracts to make it work.
