Albers Aces First AAA Test

AAA: Round Rock 4, Oklahoma 0 - Matt Albers outdueled Jon Koronka in his Triple-A debut, throwing six scoreless innings. Eric Bruntlett showed a pulse, walking twice and hitting a two-run home run.

AA: Corpus Christi 12, Wichita 5 - The Hooks pounded out 20 hits in battering the Wranglers. Marc Saccamanno reached base in all five of his at-bats and hit his 12th home run, and Jorge Cortes went 3-5 and drove in four runs. Hunter Pence made Hooks' fans happy by declining an invitation to play with the USA National Team in Olympic qualifying so that he could help the Hooks in their chase for the Texas League title.

High A: Myrtle Beach 3, Salem 1 - The Avalanche was shut down by the Pelicans' Stephen Russell. Frankie Caraballo did manage two hits.

Low A: Lakewood 6, Lexington 0 - The Blue Claws' Josh Outman mystified the Legends with seven two-hit innings. Brian Bogusevic returned to crappy form with four-plus innings and six earned runs allowed.

Short Season A: Tri-City 7, Staten Island 6 (10) - The Valley Cats fell behind 6-0 after 2.5 innings, and the Valley Cats chipped away, finally tying the game with a run in the ninth and winning it with a run in the tenth. Chad Wagler was huge out of the pen with five shutout innings of relief, and Greg Buchanan, Jordan Parraz and Andrew Holder all three had two hits and a home run.

Rookie: Greenville 3, Burlington 2 (15) - The Astros got the win despite managing only five hits in 15 innings. Sergio Severino pitched well again, allowing only one run and striking out eight in 4.1 innings.

Zobrist/Talbot Watch: Ben Zobrist singled and scored a run in three at-bats for the Rays. Aubrey Huff was 0-4 with a strikeout.

In other news, Scott unceremoniously dumped his inamorato Ben Zobrist from his lagging fantasy squad. I picture that to have been a rather emotional event, complete with Scott sobbing and beating his breast.
