[St. Pete Times] Ballplayer Ben

Marc Topkin with the St. Petersburg Times has a nice feature on the Devil Rays' new starting shortstop, Ben Zobrist. My personal favorite comments: "There's no chrome on [Zobrist]," says Rays skipper Joe Maddon, and Rays GM Andrew Friedman, who said, "One of the best ways to characterize [Zobrist] is as a baseball player. And that's a compliment." Gerry Hunsicker knows what he's doing, and Tim Purpura took the bait.

I think trading Zobrist away was a bad move, but Scott's obsession with the lad is getting downright creepy. He just picked him up on his fantasy team, for chrissakes. Anyone want to bet on how long it is before Scott is goofily sporting a Zobrist jersey around H-Town?

I'm on eBay as we speak. His apartment in Tampa is actually quite an upgrade from his place in Corpus, not too surprisingly. The security system's a bitch, though.
