Now, This Signing Makes Sense...

This may not have received the fanfare of the Carlos Lee contract (or even the Mark Loretta deal), but the Astros re-signed Dan Wheeler to a one-year contract today.

This was a no-brainer. Wheeler has been one of the most consistent performers in the Houston bullpen for the past couple of seasons, and his ability to close in a pinch (read: when Brad Lidge gets shelled like Berlin in November of 1943 and subsequently loses his mojo) only enhances his value. T-Poo could not let Wheels get away. Nice to see management nail this one down. While I fimrly believe that we'll live to regret letting Russ Springer walk (especially to the Cards), this move makes me feel slightly better about the state of the bullpen in 2007.

Now onto the next issue--signing Jason Jennings to a long-term deal.

Tim - Berlin did not get shelled in November 1943 - Allied forces did not begin the artillery assault on Berlin until April 20, 1945 (oddly enough, Hitler's birthday) - FYI.

We're not going to waste our breath, Anonymous. Ted has to spend the entire offseason with images of Tony "Started Reading Too Much of My Own Press" Romo dropping snaps and crying on the field dancing in his head. Throw in The Guppie's impending departure and the horror of another season with The Antichrist lining up at WR, and we don't need to pile on. Instead, we'll just revel in the fact that the Texans are an organization on the rise, while our neighbors to the north are in the midst of a cataclysmic freefall.

Who is going to rip Cowboys? A Texans fan? It would be a bold Texans fan supported with that awful body of work turned in this season by their team to cast a stone at the Cowboys defeat.

That being said, the fall of the Cowboys to the Seahawks inflicts enough pain such that no ribbing on htownsports can really add anything...

Have fun with Brady Quinn as the next Texans' QB ...

Does Drew Henson have any years left on his contract? Can he hit a curveball?
