[RUMOR] Tejada an Astro?

H-Town Sports heard on Monday that there was a big deal in the offing, probably one that would make Miggy Tejada a Houston Astro. Sportsradio 610 is now reporting that there is a press conference scheduled at Minute Maid Park this morning at 9:30 to make a 'major announcement'. Could our source be correct? SURELY the Astros must be giving up more than Lidge, Lane and Everett, right? How about Lidge, Everett, Lane and Hirsh. Would you do that deal?

My initial reaction was that the 'Stros are merely going to announce that Jason Lane is being sent to Round Rock. That would qualify as a major move to Tim Purpinertia.

But the more I think about it, the more I think the Houston Astros might just have acquired Carl Crawford. Lidge, Ensberg, and Patton for Crawford? His salary wouldn't represent a significant bump in payroll (Tejada sure would though), so McLane wouldn't have blinked. And if the 'Stros are willing to part with Ensberg, Lidge, and a prospect (Patton, perhaps?), the D-Rays would have to think hard about it. I'm probably just rationalizing a dream, but it makes sense to me.

With regard to Miggy, it can't just be the same players discussed in December. Lidge's value has continued to fall since then. If Hirsh is part of the package, I don't pull the trigger for Tejada.

It's a deal for Aubrey Huff. Jason Lane sent down to AAA.

What a terrible, terrible move, IMO. Huff's a rental player, and you gave up a quality pitching prospect AND your only SS prospect, who by the way is an on-base machine. Not to mention that you rental player only furthers a glut of corner IF/OF platoon players.
