Bogusevic Returns
AAA: Round Rock crushed Albequerque 7-2 last night, behind an eleven-hit offensive attack (three hits apiece for Luke Scott and Humberto Quintero) and a quality eight innings from the tandem of Mark McLemore and Phillip Barzilla.
AA: Corpus Christi was routed by the Frisco Highlanders 12-5 in an ugly affair featuring two errors and eight walks by the Hooks. Blake Allen was roughed up in his first start of the season, but the mop-up man, Monte Mansfield, a 16th round pick by the Astros in 2000, struck out ten batters in his four innings of relief. Mansfield has averaged a strikeout per inning in his minor league career, but has coupled that with a walk every other inning. Josh Anderson had a strong night at the plate with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, and Ben Zobrist reached base in three of his five plate appearances.
High-A: Salem swept a doubleheader from Lynchburg 9-7 and 3-0. The offense was led in the first game by C Lou Santangelo, who hit a pair of home runs, and SS Edwin Maysonet, who went 4-5 and drove in a pair of runs. Game Two's hero was flame-throwing Paulino Del Guidice, who earned the win with five one-hit, scoreless innings.
Low-A: The Legends won their second straight game, 8-2 over Kannapolis. Last year's #1 pick Brian Bogusevic made his return to the mound with four decent innings, and fittingly, his Tulane teammate, SS Tommy Manzella, had a big knock with a bases-clearing double. Koby Clemens had a rough night in the field with pair of errors at third base.
Short Season A: The Valley Cats overcame four errors and knocked off Oneonta 10-7 on the road. 2006 1st-round pick Max Sapp had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Rookie: Greenville shut out Princeton 2-0 behind the pitching of Corey Bass, a 47th round draft pick in the 2004 draft. SS Ronnie Ramirez continues to scald the baseball, going 2-3 with a pair of doubles last night.
