Texas Legend/Rice Offensive Coordinator to 'Bama?

Major Applewhite or Chris Simms? For several years, this debate tore the University of Texas apart and destroyed marriages and entire families. Now, the new question could be: Rice University or the University of Alabama?

Major Applewhite, fresh off his first year as the Offensive Coordinator for the Rice Owls, has been contacted by Nick Saban to discuss the possibility of joining Saban's staff. Rumors suggest that Applewhite would share Offensive Coordinator duties with former Houston Texans offensive line coach Steve Marshall. Major says that he would be interested, but has not been formally offered a position yet.

Applewhite was responsible for directing a spread attack that scored the most points (350) and amassed the third-most yards (4,486) in Rice history. The Owls produced a 1,000-yard passer (Chase Clement), a 1,000-yard rusher (Quinton Smith), and a 1,000-yard receiver (Jarett Dillard) for the first time in their history, all while earning the right to get destroyed in the New Orleans Bowl.

Conspiracy theorists may suggest that this hire could be the opening shot across the bow by Saban in constructing a pipeline from Texas to Tuscaloosa to transport high school talent. Then again, maybe that's just a rumor started by Chris Simms...
